It is not the actions, but the outcome that matters!

The end justifies the means is a famous saying; is it true?

Surprisingly, to some extent it is.

Human nature likes to see things in black and white.

But the truth is, between black and white there are many shades of grey.

So yes, there is black, those things that you may never do, namely the prohibitions of the Torah (Bible) and there is white, those things you should always do (namely the Mitzvos of the Torah,) however, and this is very important and fundamental to have a serene life, everything in-between are the ends that justify their use.

In other words, we often like to think that to be spiritual “I need to only engage in spirituality.”

However, if that is the case, why did God create the world, so we should escape it? better to be left as angles in heaven!

Rather, the very purpose of the world is to use the kosher items which are neither holy nor unholy and to have them join us in our holy service.

This is why many people couldn’t grasp the Lubavitcher Rebbe or even Lubavitch itself.

I recall an article in the Kansas City Jewish Chronicle in which the reporter writes how my dear bother Mendy is more technologically advanced than he is.

So the premise is, that if you are religious, you are technically unadvacned, hence the amazement that Mendy is technologically advanced.

This premise is based on the white and black premise.

If you are black, you don’t have to do with the world.

The truth is, that the Rebbe and of course Judaism teaches us, that we are not against the world, rather the world is our home, and ultimately God wants us to make it his home.

How do you transform something into a home?

You personalize it.

Similarly, by personalizing God, by using things for spreading Torah Chassidus and goodness and kindness, we mark them with holiness.

Now we can understand the saying of our sages that if one did not use something for spirituality he will be condemned.

Asceticism is not a Jewish path.

In fact we should eat well, make lots of money, live comfortably, have marital intimacy, for all of this makes the world into a better place if our intention is God’s intention namely goodness and kindness.

There literally is no amount of words possible to emphasize this enough.

Our goal as spiritual people is not to find another home, rather to make this world, God’s home.

Now, why do people think, that say marital intimacy, living well, making money, is not one hundred percent compatible with God.

The answer is, because we must realize that “It is not the actions, but the outcome that matters.”
