It began in a dream

God decided out of love to bestow truth

But as any loving parent would, he didn’t want to force us into the truth, rather allowed us to discover it – of course the very long way.

So firstly came ego – within a short time people were raping pillaging.

Then came Judaism, and a new ethical morality entered into humanity.

There is a notion that: “you don’t take what you can, you only are allowed, what you earn.”

It is almost impossible for us to imagine how great this shift in thinking was – for as Paul Johnson writes, there are many ideas that seem simple once you get to know them, but revolutionary in their approach – suffice to say, in vast swaths of humanity, certainly in Africa and the middle-east they still think, you can take whatever you can rape or steal – it’s not, they think they are doing something wrong, that is the norm of their society! they live in a balance of power, not in an ethical system.

And finally, comes the crunch; for though the person who does not take what he can, only what he earns, is moral; subconsciously he is not – for fundamentally his morality is a superimposed rejection of evil, but not necessarily a choice of good.

So to get us to choose to dedicate our lives to goodness and kindness (as we see, many who wouldn’t steal, nonetheless don’t work for higher ideals) God sent us into exile, a time of great great darkness, and after literally two thousand years of darkness, the world – of course including the Jewish people – woke up, “WHY ARE WE EVEN LIVING? – WE HAVE OUR NEEDS – WE EVEN HAVE licentiousness – WHAT IS THE POINT OF LIFE ITSELF? – AND AS KING SOLOMON, SO WISELY SAID: FROM DARKNESS COMES LIGHT – FOR ONLY THOSE disillusioned WITH THE REALITY THEY LIVE IN, CAN ESCAPE ITS DESIRES; AND HENCE CHOOSE A MORE NOBLE MEANINGFUL AND ETERNAL LIFE OF LIGHT.”
