Is God Personal

Many people believe today in a  personal God

Perhaps ironically, Religious Jews have the greatest difficulty with this, though of course Judaism started by, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, was only about a personal God, in fact they sort of created the idea, as it simply didn’t exist beforehand.

Now the reason religious Jews in particular have a problem with this is because of a mass personal experience which unfortunately is seen as a mass impersonal experience.

Aka, Mount Sinai.

I am God the Lord who took you out of Egypt

Now though our sages teach us that this message, this voice was heard – individually – by each person, to the extent that every person individually  said, “God is speaking to me” nonetheless, as we look back historically, we assume that it was a mass revelation, like everyone watching a movie, not a personal experience.

But the greatness of an infinite God – as the Rebbe uses the example of a super computer which many individual computers network to – is that the same God, even the very same revelation is personalized.
