in truth there is a single war, it is the motivation behind all wars, in families, amongst friends, amongst countries, amongst civilizations, yes, all wars can be seen in the prototype – for though some people think the Bible is a bunch of stories, not realizing they are the quintessential archetypes of the human experience, in which God used certain people to show us good and evil, to give us a visual on overcoming, on growing – you see, the very first story in essence, if you can understand the psychology behind it, is the very factor for good and evil – in the beginning God makes a universe – In this universe he puts in a single man- this man is given it all, except yes sadly, except two trees… – and instead of thanking God, for it; All he does is succumb to temptation (Chassidus in fact explains that Chava-Eve understood it was God’s intent for man to fall, but man wasn’t strong enough) was it peer pressure (from his wife) the essence really gets down to the insightful saying of the Baal Shem Tov “when you want everything you end up with nothing” – you see as our sages teach, when we come into this world our hands are open, yes, we are ready to take everything, but when we go, they are curled, for we can take nothing – Well that’s not exactly true, for the Bible mentioned some other noble virtuous men and women, like Abraham and Sara, who opened their hearts, hence left a legacy of love – Yes, behind all wars lies a single phenomena, it is the insatiable appetite of our ego – a friend of mine told me, he had a friend who was a drug-addict and all he wanted after his recovery was just one pair of sneakers, not much, he was happy; but then he got rich and now he is miserable – Yes, I have seen this in Africa, the poorer you are, the happier you are – for the richer you are, the more you want – Alexander the Great reached the Garden of Eden where he was refused entry but was given a gift, an eye – not knowing what to do with it he asked the Jewish sages who told him to weigh it and no matter how much gold and silver he put on the other side, this little eye outweighed everything; baffled by this strange phenomena he asked for an explanation – “now put a drop sand over the eye” – and suddenly even a feather weighed more than it – this they explain is the message of the Garden of Eden – the human eye sees so much and wants it all! but when it goes to the ground, covered by dirt it ceases – behind all the terrorism and in fact bullying, in fact whenever you and I God-forbid get angry is one thing lust – it is a lust to be what we want, it is the fundamental misunderstanding that our desires are who we are, they are rather, not – our desires do not give us wings, they trap us in iron chains – in fact, every night, the reason God made us dream, is for in our dreams we fulfill our desires, so tomorrow we can have new day unbound by the foolishness of our desire – but God gave us a single antidote to our innate demon controlling our happiness, with its insatiable appetite and ridiculous assumption of entitlement – Thank-you! – yes, had Adam instead spent his time saying thank-you to God he wouldn’t have cared for a silly tree, if you continue to spend your days saying thank-you you will see you are richer than Alexander the Great and /or Bill Gates; if I say thank you, instead of seeing what I lack, I too will become the wealthiest person alive
