In today’s Tanya portion the Alter Rebbe explains a seeming contentious idea from the Baal Shem Tov – which ironically was the philosophical reason the Goan of Vilna disagreed with Chassidus – namely, that God resides everywhere, as he couldn’t imagine God would reside say in a negative space like an idol etc. – but as is obvious, that God is not a limited this or that, being – it is he who created the idol as a challenge for us.
