In this week’s Torah portion, we have the Ten-Commandments, one the fascinating verses is, that, “The Lord spoke these words to your entire assembly at the mountain, out of the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the opaque darkness, with a great voice, which did not cease.” What does it mean that this voice didn’t cease?

You see, the Ten-Commandments were not a revelation, they were an entirely new paradigm!

A revelation is when you update an existing paradigm, for example usually scientific discoveries are all revelations; before we didn’t know there was dna, now we do; but there are certain discoveries that change everything – the very way we saw things is changed (for example Heisenberg’s principle of uncertainty fundamentally altered everything, as many quantum physics discoveries, for they mean that the very way we see the world is not correct.)

So what changed? – What changed was an understanding of the Divine – for until this time the very way people looked at (and in fact most still do) the Divine, was through the paradigm of humans – in other words, everything is definable.

But this voice which entered into our universe is a different paradigm.

Succinctly it is both the source for darkness and the source for light, and hence can unite light within darkness.
