In this week’s parsha we find the concept of Yibum according to Jewish law (though there is a loophole) If a woman’s husband dies and they didn’t have kids, she should marry his brother – this is establishing children on his name – Chassidus has a deep explanation of this (for as we know, all physical emanates from the spiritual) We are born and we establish for ourselves a name, an identity, but then that name may die – the question is, now what?! the answer is, we must become reborn! – in other words, the first material God has to work with, is so deeply entrenched in our identity, ego, desires, there is hardly space; however, if God induces through oppression, humiliation, abuse; we can lose our love for the person we were born as; but this gives us the ability to be reborn! and as we do this in a conscious way, we can truly choose
