In the spiritual quest there is an awesome danger – I had a friend who told me (that before he found Judaism) he was on an Indian reservation meditating five hours a day – it was a lofty world with much bliss – the problem is, he said, you can be meditating and the world, your loved ones are dying – spirituality, in fact any drug, notion, desire that has a beginning but lacks an end is not only addictive but effectively causes an escape from reality – so it is critical to understand- especially for spiritual people – where does God end? – yes, where does God end? – in other words, if God in relation to you doesn’t have an end, then you are not fulfilling the mission, the purpose of creation but denying it (as our sages teach God made the world to be lived in, not escaped from) ultimately the answer is (though perhaps we may not be at this level yet) spirituality ends when you reach God and you reached God when there is no high or low (as we know God is the creator of both)
