in all people there is (at least almost, for there are unbalanced exceptions) a constant state – now there is no person who is consistently constant, but generally what happens is they set up an underlying premise – if they believe they are safe their natural hopes come to play and hope is a pleasurable state – this is why many men suffer a mid-life crises for it is a time when they realize their fantasies will remain that way, so they work on actualizing them until they realize their fantasies are stupidity and then they become old which is really just giving up (for there are many vibrant old people) conversely if we live in a state of panic (we imagine and often unfortunately with good reason -generally women have this ideal) that the world is dangerous, our constant companion is misery (this is why in marriage it is critical a husband makes his wife happy, for when we are miserable we then become malicious, for we subconsciously believe it isn’t fair… (so to make it fair, the mind shows us reasons why it will be fair to be malicious, so “if you are miserable then its fair”) in truth this simple notion encompasses practically all of life
