Imagine a boy who grew up in a strawberry patch – all he tasted were strawberries – imagine a boy who grew up in a radish patch, all he tasted were radishes – and strolling along, the boys meet – each would see the other eating some kind of different exotic food – We must understand, that the way we see the world i.e. what is normal to us and the other is exotic, is exactly the way others see us! – the importance of this point cannot be overstated – there was a very good movie (I saw on the plane from South Africa) called Jerusalema – effectively, how a black gangster becomes real estate mogul and a Jewish girl comes to a dingy club in his black neighborhood – as she’s hanging there, he, looking incredulous, that the upper should come to the lower class, asks her – “why do you come to poverty?” – “when you have money,” replies she, “it seems glamorous” – so the great irony (this is behind much of the male / female attraction) the other seems glamorous – This is fatal attraction, for when you have an emotional response, you cannot see something logical (which is obviously, “Love (as is hate) is blind” etc.) So we must understand, there are generally speaking, only two kinds of cultures – the recent innovation of the French revolution, that people should be democratically free – and the common mid-evil mindset, which is the pervading mindset in most of the world, that people are slaves – and whoever has power, rules unconditionally – far from being glamorous, they obey, for otherwise as one businessman who decided he wasn’t going to wait around for the king of some African country to come to the appointment they made, told me, that the guard asked him to please stay, for otherwise “he’ll kill me” – this is the real reality of people living in Arabic regimes, in African dictatorships etc. etc.
