If you wish to be wise (and conversely not a moron) it is obvious, as all philosophers, all religions – in essence anyone thinking, observing mind sees – Man is not a single being – nowhere, who we are, is described more precisely, than perhaps in the greatest mind in human history, Rabbi Shnuer Zalman, in his magnum opus the Tanya, he describes (and this is the basic division though, there are many many deeper subdivisions within this basic division) two separate identities which both have access to our mind – the first is our natural self which is called the animal soul, for exactly like an animal it gravitates to survival, pleasure and fear of pain (an offshoot of this animal is ego, hence our desire for recognition, and anger when demeaned and jealousy when feeling entitled (jealousy creates hate and hate is the desire to destroy, but as we rationalize our evil, hence the antisemite doesn’t see himself as a nazi, but a purger of Jewish evil; as the terrorist sees westerners; as a bully defines his victim etc. etc.) on the polar opposite end of the spectrum is our mind – a rational objective perspective and the mind can access our soul, our true side, the Divine image implanted in man! hence the incredible acts of charity, compassion and goodness and kindness
