If you do something that you didn’t choose, if you say something you didn’t want, if you think a thought you don’t want to think about – so who is acting, speaking or doing? – obviously it’s not you – but then who is it? – there is as single simple truth – as Tanya teaches, we are basically three people – animal instincts (so every animal chooses not its behavior, but its instincts do) We also have Divine instincts (a desire for truth, compassion etc. which is unique, as animals don’t have this) but then we have freedom of choice – now freedom of choice boils down to the ability to order ourselves around – we can never kill our animal (if we did, we wouldn’t be alive) but what we can do, is train it to know who is the boss – so our mind has the ability to train our dog, but as anyone who ever trained a dog will tell you, as the dog doesn’t like to be told what to do, you really really really need to want to!
