If we are in essence consciousness – obviously, you wouldn’t consider someone unconscious, in a coma, as being truly alive – and within us is intelligence – the rational soul – hence, the ability to observe, somewhat objectively both our own instincts, our body, even our thoughts, as well as what we can observe outside of ourselves (obviously you wouldn’t consider a dog who merely barks, eats, etc. on instinct, as rational – even a child, too) Hence in other words, God married an objective rational observer, who based on a Divine soul – a seeker of truth, goodness etc. – would ultimately discover, that his or her instincts, are simply biological hormones and his or her associative thoughts, REACTIONS, to those instincts; and hence choose the path of light over the path of predilections.
