If I understand life based on Kabbalah correctly, we all will go through three stages – the first the stage of Abraham, where we love unconditionally – the second, the stage of Isaac, where we fear unconditionally – this is a very negative stage (though of course Isaac feared God, unconditionally, but we pick up fear of future shame based on past shame) fear turns to resentment, resentment turns to hate, hate turns to anger, anger feels pretty bad (like sitting on a hot stove) anger turns to jealousy of those who have not been shamed which turns to bullying (as studies prove) but there is the ultimate state of Jacob, namely, discernment, but fundamentally, the saying of the Baal Shem Tov “Trust and Follow God (so you will) Fear No One and Hence Be Able To Love Everyone Unconditionally – now this doesn’t mean you are in the childhood naïve unconditional love, rather though you lack fear, you have chosen to love unconditionally – which is exactly how we love ourselves!”
