Identity

What is identity?
In Discovering You (under booklets http://kabbalahwisdom.org/booklets/discovering-you/) we discus a great deal about identity.
Suffice it to say, identity is the uniquely human – no animals have identity – behavior regulator.
A man who researched and wrote a book about the Japanese said, the Japanese are not born, they are made!
No one is born with a instinct to put their hands together, and bow humbly their head, before another – and how deep the bow must be etc. etc.
No one is born knowing a language,
No one is born knowing customs, say, American ideals, South African; neither their faith, nor their religion.
Yet we all take on these habits almost imperceptibly, as it is the air we breath.
How come?
Identity!
What is identity?
Quite simple, it is a mechanism by which a person identifies themselves.
(Which is why when people – God forbid – get abused and they disassociate with others, they are likely to become psychopaths, for they have no reason to identify themselves with whom they despise.)
Role models form identity.
And this is why one of the first commandments of the Torah is to have God’s heart; his loving-kindness, his compassion, his forgiveness, most practically, seen in his Tzaddikim (saints) the Rebbe (for example, which is why God gives us these Divine souls filled with his attributes) to serve as the role model, hence, your identity!
