I think I have discovered the ultimate – trauma healer! – I have come to realize, that trauma is the function of our expectations being raped – for example, there is a fascinating story of a Jewish man (I can’t remember his name) who had legendary strength and went from Europe around the world to tour, bending iron bars etc. – he ended up marrying a girl from his home town – when the Nazis came to their village, somehow a massive bomb had fallen which didn’t explode – he personally carried it away – arriving in Auschwitz, he was placed in charge of one of the worst cells, as the Nazis gave one person charge – in his capacity, he did what he could to save Jews – however, when he came to Israel after the war and began doing shows to make some money – some Jews accused him for being a collaborator – and here is the punchline, what the Nazis couldn’t do to him (with all their monstrous murderous sadistic behavior) his fellow Jews did, by accusing him of crimes he didn’t do – he died of a broken heart – My friend Norman Frank told me – “it’s all about expectations – if a Nazi would be nice to you, you would be pleasantly surprised; but if God-forbid say your father or mother, cruel, it may break your heart forever!” – similarly, I have read of a number of people who psychologically escaped the holocaust, though they were prisoners like others – what I believe was the difference was (as in the case of Viktor Frankel) they chose (usually to assist family members) to go – in other words, it is the rape of expectation, as opposed to the expectation of rape, which causes trauma – hence a simple and very accurate mechanism to overcome trauma is – tell yourself – “I choose retroactively to go through what I did” (as it brought to me the following, say, lesson etc.)
