I learned an amazing explanation from the Tzemach Tzeddek, that the idea that Abraham was told to reach his Inner Essence, means, that our soul coming from Holiness, and "Holiness never leaves its original location," so while we may be alive below, like an umbilical cord, we’re attached to the world of Atzilus, where our Souls come from
