I just learned an amazing teaching via Chabad .org – why does Sukkois the festival of joy cause us joy? – why is it that the awesomeness and grandeur of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur being as it were in the King’s throne room cause trepidation but not joy – shouldn’t the closeness to power cause us happiness – and yet we empirically see this not to be the case – having lived in Africa, it is empirically clear that the more power one has, the less happy and vice-versa – we see this so clearly that children with the least power are the most joyous! – you see, the intrinsic states of God, hence our soul, is joy – however when we achieve power – though it is always delusional (for all the powerful people in the past five thousand years, from Emperors to whatever, have been eaten by the lowly maggot) nonetheless, this delusion fills us with pride – now pride is the enemy of joy – for when I am filled with my own ego, self-importance, it now behooves such a distinguished individual such as myself to receive my desire (this is why little children accustomed to receiving their needs hence developing subconsciously a great ego begin to throw tantrums and specifically after not getting their wants, do they become happy)
