I have a cousin who is the Rabbi of a very large community and in dealing with marriage and other interpersonal conflicts, he speaks often about the Judaic teaching that good and evil are intertwined, as our sages teach, there is no altruism without ego, and there is no ego without altruism (in other words, the egomaniacal tyrant also has even in the recesses of his heart, altruism, which is why, we find the saying “even the wicked Jews, are filled with good deeds like a pomegranate.”)
