How to recapture your soul

By zevi770 · May 26, 2013

We are all born with purity, in fact a lot of research has gone into how children are innately compassionate.

It is fear and shame that creates a new heart, a hard heart – when people become cynical, sarcastic, unfortunately, cruel and bullies.

How do we recapture our purity? for as Chassidus teaches, purity never ever gets effected; the love we have, is even evident in the murderers and God-forbid criminals, as Reish Lakish, a leader of a gang of bandits said “even the worst Jew is filled with good deeds (he did) as a pomegranate is filled with seeds!”

As always, the Baal Shem Tov has the answer; you see, we need to realize emotions aren’t like candles; they are not like amorphous light; they are like hard bricks, very real feelings that lodge themselves into our psyche, and in order to get back to our purity, we need to dislodge these bricks of shame, of anger, of hate, of jealousy.

How do we do this?

Well imagine these bricks as solid darkness, so though they may make you feel a certain way, which causes you to behave in a certain way, light always, always, always, dispels darkness!

So the goal is to add light, as they call it today, “Positive Psychology!”

See how much God loves you! see how much others love you! and in the clarity of light, the bricks will automatically dislodge; but remember, the battle between light and darkness, like literally light and darkness, can never end; for the moment you stop thinking positive, is the moment the bricks return; so every morning – for the first thoughts we have, train our brain on how to think for the rest of the day – count your blessings!
