How to live happily

Most, in fact all of us, want to be happy
Trouble is, it seems, most if not all of us, don’t know which route to take towards it
Many are those who have realized, money, sex, drugs make a person not happy
And although many also take the route of spiritual bliss, it also somewhat leaves a person unfulfilled, for as the sages teach “pleasure becomes pleasureless through repetition.”
So to understand how to be happy, we must look at those who are happy.
Let’s look at children.
Children in general are very happy.
Now we were all children – hopefully, you can remember times of great happiness in childhood.
So the question is, what happened; because, now we may be adults and yet we don’t have that same level of joy.
Ironically, the reason children are happy, is certainly not from material possessions, which they lack.
In fact, it’s from two simple facts:
Obviously, number one, their needs, including emotional and physical security, feeling loved and not afraid of abuse, God-forbid, must be intact – no one under pressure can be happy!
But two, the real reason they are happy, for they are not grateful, even cognizant that they are fortunate – it’s just these needs mustn’t be lacking which would induce misery – is because, they are not arrogant, hence they are not frustrated!
In other words, because they are aware that they are children, because they are aware that relative to their parents / adult world, they have no right to demand anything, thus they are content with whatever it is that they have.
Which is why a spoiled child, who thinks that s/he is entitled to get whatever he or she wants, is not a happy, but a greedy, frustrated child.
It’s really that simple.
And when you and me begin to realize, that relative to G-d, we are not even an ameba, we are not even a single atom, so who are we to demand anything!? it is then too, that our incessant desires, based on innate feelings of entitlement ceases, and once our desires, hence lack of frustration for not getting them, stops – well, what isn’t there to be happy about!!!
