How to be humble

By zevi770 · February 13, 2013

Last night as we studied the notion that the ultimate source of blessing comes through humility, for humility is the ultimate connection to the source of blessings, God! a friend of mine suggested, we need to write a book on this important concept!

How to be humble!

Well, in order to understand how to be humble, we first need to understand, how we are not humble!

The Baal Shem Tov teaches an amazing parable about arrogance, which shows how we are unaware about the existence of our ego!

A man travelling on a, (moderning up the example,) journey, with his chauffer, fell asleep – the chauffer then took the car up a hill, so now the car was raised much higher than it was before, however, when the man awoke, he noticed nothing different, as all he saw was the road and the sky – similarly, we are all egotistical without realizing it – and the proof is, anger comes from ego – for a person who believes they deserve nothing, will not be upset by anything! – Yet we all can easily become very sensitive, enraged, infuriated at perceived injustice! – And at the core of this feeling, is, the injustice, that someone as precious as me, should suffer an indignity, from someone who has no just cause, like you.

Ultimately, the reason we feel this way, is, because, God creates us, primarily as a psychological being.

Psychological Beings, means, that we see the world from the perspective of ego.

Our existence is rooted in the core of our psychology!

At the heart of our worldview, is the belief, that we exist!

Once we start with this premise, the question is of course, why should I suffer unjustly?!

Do you agree? Why should you suffer unjustly?!

Now, let’s change the question, imagine you woke up after a nightmare – do you think? – “that wasn’t fair, that someone hurt me?” – No! Because it wasn’t you, it was an image.

So to, we are not really things that exist!

We are in essence, a soul which exists!

Now, as when we develop our perception of existence – and for other reasons – we are unaware of this reality! hence, we equate our existence to our BODY – so now, if you hurt my body, you hurt ME, and I become angry over the INJUSTICE!

But what if our soul is real, and our body is not?!

Imagine that for a moment, that you are not your body! Your body is merely like clothing – how angry would you be if someone hit your clothing? – Not angry at all! – So this is the destination to overcoming ego.

Our soul is like a flame, a life force which comes from the source of all life force, God!!!

In fact, our flame is called in the second chapter of Tanya, an actual part of God!

God created a psychological perception – you and I and everyone else exists not in reality, rather in perception of ourselves!!!
