How The Rebbe Fits The Unique Description (or one of them) Of Moshiach

One of the amazing points about Moshiach is mentioned in the famous verse, “It Will Rest Upon Him The Spirit Of God, A Spirit Of Wisdom And Fortitude, And He Will Smell The Truth.”

The Rebbe asks the question, how can Halacha (Jewish law) be based on scent (namely, even if one can literally smell truth – interestingly they say a lie in heaven smells like excrement, nonetheless Jewish law must be based on the constitution of Judaism, the framework of Jewish laws from the Torah, which we know will never be abrogated.)

Explains the Rebbe, what is unique about Moshiach, is that not only is he imbued with such Divine talents, to be able to smell the truth, but furthermore, his knowledge of Torah is so complete that he will be able to teach all the Jewish sages how based on Torah, what he smelled, was accurate.

(In fact, this is why the Rebbe teaches, the first part of the verse, which is said by all Jews as a prayer for oneself (during the festivals) does apply for each individual; for this ability of Divine prophecy or spirit, can come to all people, but the latter part of the verse about smelling and judging does not apply to each individual, for Moshiach will be unique in his knowledge of Torah, even greater than Mosses.)

When one reads and studies the Torah of the Rebbe and sees the absolute breadth, depth, profound insight and simplistic clarity, it leads me to believe, as I heard from Rabbi Kesselman, who heard from Rabbi Hirshprung – one of the greatest Torah scholars of our generation – (who ordained me as a Rabbi and was a close admirer of the Rebbe) “Even if the wisest of men would study seventeen hours a day for decades a single one of the fields the Rebbe taught – be it Chassidus, Talmud, Halacha, Jewish philosophy etc. etc. – it would literally be impossible for them to be able to come up with the innovations, insight, clarity, wisdom! – THIS IS A DIVINE SOUL’S WISDOM!”
