How God Works

The biggest misconception – in fact we even have a name for it (that’s pretty big!) is called anthropomorphization (thinking God works like man.)

After literally tens of thousands of hours of Kabbalah research… the only place where we can discover this, I can tell you:

In a certain sense, it is alluded to in the famous prophecy where God says, “My thoughts are not like your thoughts, As heaven is higher than earth so are my thoughts; For rain falls not to the ground until it seeds the (plant) which is harvested by the farmer, which causes him to be satiated – my words do not come back empty.”

So number one, as Kabbalah teaches, there is no differentiation in God between thoughts and actions (that is a very very powerful concept; hence, when Moses received information that God was going to have the older generation die – he said, “He is not a man to be appeased” – this means not that God is angry (for that is an emotion, based on ego; which God has none) rather, whatever is the current decision, will always be.

So in other words, to understand God, you must understand only his decisions.

Amazingly, from the many remarkable prophets – men of incredible qualities and genius minds, God has sent us, perhaps the greatest of them all was in our time, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn! – and the very last edited talk that he presented (Shabbos Parshas Ki Sisah 5752 / 1992) he explains how God functions (now in essence this is a subject that requires vast knowledge and perhaps even some personal experience, for it is so far removed from human functioning…)

However as the Rebbe explains, all of reality is summarized in a threefold mechanism.

Thought, action, result.

In other words, every result is based on a thought – but as God can infinitely think, therefore we are forever within a continuous, updating, upgrades!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
