God’s desires

 

Does God have desires?

 

It seems strange – but in order to do something you must have some kind of a desire.

 

In fact the more you are ethereal, in other words the less compelled by any kind of biological desire, the more whatever you desire is an absolute choice.

 

This is why the Alter-Rebbe in explaining God’s reason for creation compares it to an irrational desire, say for chocolate-cake – can I explain why I like chocolate cake? – Similarly desire is based on pleasure.

 

So what we can say is, God desires to have the pleasure of giving.
