From the Alter Rebbe I just learned something extraordinary, truly amazing – just as if you have a sundial, so the sundial works because the sun travels in an extraordinary orbit – in fact according to the Rambam there is the orbit of the entire universe which on a daily basis turns around – hence for an hour to pass, the sun has traveled millions of miles, and yet it only looks like a tiny difference, like the clock hand going from say 12:00 to 1:00 – so too, the smallest of good we do, or the smallest of bad that occurs to us below – every mitzvah that we do, every coin to charity and likewise every time we stub our toe, every drop of suffering – either contribute millions upon millions of reward! or erases millions upon millions of punishment!
