From an impersonal to a personal God

By zevi770 · August 30, 2011

The basic paradigm of humanity was impersonal leaders cared about themselves; subjects had to appeal to their baser instincts, such as bribery or submission for access.

Abraham introduced a novel and revolutionary concept to humanity, a personal God.

The impersonal versus personal relationship to God – which the entre religious modern spectrum has shifted to, hence the stark difference between the classic Christians versus the Evangelicals etc. – is based on the simplest of human errors namely anthropomorphization.

Rabbi Avrohom asked the greatest spiritual giant of our generation, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shcneersohn “what’s the likelihood that God cares about a blade of grass somewhere – (a fundamental belief in Judaism of the omnipresence and omnipotence of God)” The Rebbe replied, “what is the chance he doest?” and explained “a owner of a company would like to have full control of all his company does, but being limited hires managers, however as God is unlimited there is no chance that he would leave anything to chance.”

This fundamental difference between a grandeur human, or a unlimited God – like google that can access all the information and pop out the correct answer instantly for hundreds of millions of people – simultaneously– is the wisdom that allowed Judaism to redefine God’s capability of being in an infinite relationship with multiple users.
