From A Speech I Prepared For The U.N.

We all want peace – All people innately desire unity – love is the very essence of our souls
A human being is a social creature – it is for this reason both love and abandonment are such powerful emotions.
When we feel love, more than the security it provides, it ensures our need for unity, connection, interpersonal relationships, has been fulfilled.
On the flip side, if we feel neglected, cast aside, certainly G-d forbid hated, more than the insecurity that develops, a deep hurt, a wound that unless healed is born in our heart; festering into a malignant tumor, eating both ourselves and eventually transforming a loving heart into an embittered hating one – resentful of the love others have, and this jealousy dominates us, transforming compassionate hearts into bullying, cruel ones.
. Peace is so elusive because we have to have something beyond us that we feel united by
Ultimately the key to peace is in seeing internally what unites us.
There are two faces to the reality G-d made – the first is what we see, the second, is what it is.
For example, a person who never saw a parked car, may consider this to be a place to have a temporary shelter; but once one knows the purpose of a car, one wouldn’t think such a thought.
Similarly, when we see ourselves and those around us, but being unaware that we are agents of the Divine consciousness to integrate the consciousness of compassion, love, tolerance and growth, goodness and kindness in our beings – to help bring light into the darkness of the human consciousness, we fail to know who we or others are.
When this Divine purpose becomes OUR purpose, when higher ideals become OUR ideals, when truth becomes OUR COMPASS, when love becomes OUR HEART, then, not only do we heal our soul, but we become a source of light, healing, for all other souls! And as more of us become aware of the Divine within, we begin to identify with one another; seeing us as collaborators; like many flames bringing more light – not like many consumers, fighting over limited resources.
. A recent book by Jim Clifton CEO of Gallup Polls discovered that 84% of the world believes in a higher being
Generally speaking it is fair to say that east and west divides itself along the spiritual versus deterministic mode of thinking. But ironically, what all studies are showing and as the title of Jim’s book was, “G-d is alive and well!”
Never before have more rational people realized the emptiness of pursing materialism and pleasure, and in their search for the reason for their existence, have discovered, both the joy and the meaning G-d transfers to man.
. It is not G-d that divides, rather egos.
Sadly the scourge of radical Islam has in the recent years cost hundreds of thousands of lives, threatening millions and if not adequately restrained, threating in fact, the entire world.
This is because some people do not see – G-d is a force of unity, a father to each man, not an exclusive club in which we deny others their freedom, their rights.
G-d is here to help us grow, but when people’s egos, become tied into their ideas, they see those who think differently not as their fellow humans, but, as the greatest threat to civilization, namely the Ayatollah of Iran, Khamenei calls us, the satan.
. When G-d gave Mosses the Bible, he also instructed him on a universal code which would unite humanity
Among the major religions today, of course, is Judaism, Christianity and Islam – all hold in the highest regard Mosses as being the prophet whom the word of G-d first flowed through, to teach humanity justice, civility, goodness and kindness.
As a Rabbi and a Jew it is both privilege and duty, to teach humanity about the seven laws G-d told Mosses to teach the entire world – most of Jewish history it was dangerous for a Jew to tell gentiles anything, for their faith, tied so deeply to their egos, prevented any form of tolerance.
Today thank-G-d most of humanity believes in human rights, which is the very raison d’etre of the United Nations; as such, the time has come, to both reveal and promote these universal laws given by G-d for the benefit of humanity.
They are:
To not replace the truth that all comes from G-d by believing in any other “supreme being”
To not blaspheme – which means to not get angry and curse G-d (which is a corollary of the first command, for if we do believe in G-d, we often may feel let down.)
To not kill
To not steal
To not commit adultery
To not be cruel
And finally, last but not least, to establish courts of laws, to adjudicate between citizens, so people don’t resort to violence.
Fundamentally, all these laws boil down to one idea, namely, as the Rebbe – the universalistic leader of world Jewry told CNN when asked for his message to the world – “The messiah is coming – from our part we need to do something additional in the realm of goodness and kindness!”
