For us to tell God what we need, is only a tool for us to realize that what we need comes from God; but a higher level is, as the Baal Shem Tov says, to ask God to give us what he knows is in our best interest, for pragmatically speaking, for an avatar to tell the programmer what he needs is as foolish as a baby (and infinitely more so) telling its parents that all its predilections (say candies, not going to sleep, etc. etc.) are in its interest!
