Fantasy Versus Reality

Freud speaks about the difference between maturity and immaturity is the fantasy (what he calls the pleasure) principle, versus the reality principle.
The fantasy principle is that, if I find the right “father” “mother” “protector” I will get what I want.
This is obviously based on the childhood perception of the “good” dad etc. gives me what I want.
The trouble with the fantasy principle is that its not true.
The definition of good and bad based on our own desires which don’t often even accord with our needs and may be contrary to them (like children who cannot think or adults who use bad substances) is simply a wrong definition.
But the reality principle Freud says is often too hard for people to cope with so they live in delusional hope.
