Dirah Bitachtoinim A home for God within you and within this world

Sounds counterintuitive, does it not?

All religions seek the nirvana of existential anonymity.

To Buddhists the greatest quest is the kiss of death, to be one with God for eternity.

In Christianity, monks leave hearth and home for a more spiritual awakening location where their heartfelt desire to unite with God can be expressed.

But in Judaism we are told, if your heart desires to elevate to God return to your mission in life.

Jewish mysticism claims the purpose of all existence, the reason why God creates you me and the lamppost, is so we should radiate him right here on earth.

In one of the first talks the Rebbe – the greatest Kabbalist and Jewish mysticism teacher ever – explains that the very notion of light is darkness to God.

In other words, if I lived in a mansion, the attitude I have even towards a lesser type of home – say your average suburbia home – is one of disdain (certainly I would not leave the mansion to settle into the lesser home).

For this reason it is impossible to say that creation is for any of the spiritual nirvana states so often desired by man.

Man has a tendency to desire that which is most yen like.

The reason for this zen desire within man is quite simply that he finds his current reality stifling.

The soul of man is like fire – ever willing to go out of its limit, ready to expire into nirvana.

Here lies the unique genius of Jewish mysticism in teaching that though man may desire nirvana God desires transformation.
