Divinity in Man – corrected

When we hear that word, some Jews, so foreign to spirituality – the inner truth of Judaism, its soul, spirit and foretaste of the “new Torah” messianic wisdom which will flood the earth soon (hence revealed partially now) will feel queasy!
But first and foremost, let’s get things straight!
Everything is God.
Nothing is not God.
Many many many books have been written on this, perhaps the most eloquent, The Gateway To Understanding God’s Unity in This World, by Rabbi Shnuer Zalman of Liadi, the second book of the Tanya.

So it all depends which part of the atom you are looking at.
Is atoms, matter or energy? Or, both simultaneously?
Well it depends which part you are looking at – quite literally – When you are looking at atoms they become particles, hence matter, when not, they are waves, hence energy!
Energy is matter; hence, one thing can be two things; depending on what you looking at!
Is a person a soul, or a body?
Not being crude, but for a simple example; if you are looking at a beautiful woman, you perhaps cannot see her soul; but if you had an intelligent conversation with someone, where there was no light, you could only see their soul!
So life is bodies and souls.
As usually we peer though the sunglasses of body, hence we cannot recognize the soul, the Divine within!
Of course, life itself, is a soul in a body!
Without the soul, there is no living body!
A corpse, is a body without its soul!
A soul is life, energy, desire – hence depression is a minor death.
But no need to be depressed, once you realize who you truly are!
But ironically, to realize who you truly are, you must first realize who you truly aren’t!
For not only do we conceal other’s souls in their bodies, we primarily conceal our own!
When did we first become aware we existed?!
Perhaps in the twos – there is me – independent of mom – I – hence temper tantrums, for we associate our infantile wishes with our whole being!
In other words, we have been programmed to see ourselves, as our body’s wishes!
Hence, there is no greater prison, wherein one is trapped in their own perception of themselves, creating a false identity, acting based on false perception, not realizing that their bodily desires, is but a fragment of their whole, not the whole, nor the sum, in any way, shape or form!
To put it in clearer terms, we have a body with instincts and desires; but our Godly soul, only manifests itself slowly but surely, until fully, by Bar or Bas Mitzvah, 12 or 13, for a boy or girl respectively.
In other words, by the time we formed our identity, our value system, we are already trapped – locked into a perception that we are those desires, that we need to overcome!
But what if we are not?
What if, like being in prison, those desires are the prison guard shouting orders and we are in a different world altogether – though our body must follow certain rules, our heart is in a free land! where we can fulfill our wishes! and as the Baal Shem Tov teaches, where man wishes to be, THERE HE TRULY IS!
What if indeed?!
For as Freud taught, what or whom people admire – say Mandela, the Rebbe etc., is often not who they are.
But who are they? Who they want to be? Or, they don’t want to be?!
A person eating chocolate cake on a diet, is more a dieting person making a mistake; than a chocolate cake eating person, trying to diet.
For if nothing else, what defines us, amazingly; is not our actions, rather, our wishes!
The true us, is the Divine-Godly soul, the desire for a good world, for love, for unity, for Moshiach! Sent via my BlackBerry from Vodacom – let your email find you!
