Desire

 

Desire is actually what runs the entire universe

 

Desire is what created the universe, as the Alter Rebbe said, God had a desire to unite with us – hence he created us – placed us in darkness – allowed us to realize it is dark – we then began to seek light/God.

 

In us humans who parallel God (as Kabbalah teaches, our souls parallel God’s) desire is the primary force.

 

For whatever we desire is the direction we take

 

Every animal is also run by desire -the key difference between an animal and a human though is an animal is completely the subject of his desires, while unlike an animal, a human can completely alter our desires.

 

For example in an animal, if they get addicted to drugs they will always allow that addiction to take over their lives, stop eating and die.

 

However a human being, who also has an equal chance of getting addicted, has the unique capacity to stop desiring his additions.

 

This is why drug addicts need to hit rock-bottom, for it is only when their desire to stop enters, that they actually have a chance.

 

The good new is, that if you will go in the direction of your desire, you must realize two things: a. each and every desire, like literally having ropes attached to you and being pulled in different directions will automatically lessen the other desire b. you and you alone control your destiny/desire
