Here the Alter Rebbe explains truly an important principle for the Benoini (and life in general.)

As mentioned, only during the emotional longing for God in prayer does a person feel an active love hence in this loving state only positive Divine desires exist.

However upon ending prayer, a person returns back to the normal state and in this state, all of the desires we have, both spiritual and animalistic manifest (one need only mention as our sages say, “three sins everyone daily transgresses, one lustful thinking, wasting time etc.”)

So how does the Benoini deal with these desires.

The answer is that God created that our minds are capable of altering our thoughts, speech and action through choosing to think, speak or say whatever we want.

This is a truly truly truly important all encompassing principle – (often people don’t realize that thoughts are merely desires and by deciding what you wish to choose to think about, you can become positive.)
