Border of insanity

What is so patently obvious but as we love to love, we hate to define (for then we may need to reassess) that the essence of a person is lovable, for a person’s essence is love – but Jewish mysticism often speaks about latent and manifest states (for example, there is latent fear – “Oy my God, I may fall into a pit” – and manifest
“OY MY GOD I AM FALLING INTO A PIT!” These two state are incomparable, for in the former there is still the capacity to analyze, in the latter there is an emotional unintelligent reaction.
Nowhere do we assume a greater insanity than in ego (in fact ego is the source of delusions, for as the Baal Shem Tov said, those who truly become delusional, it is because their desire for grandeur didn’t manifest in reality, so it manifests in their minds, which is an individual’s reality)
Hence to literally be cognitively functioning, a person a. must be humble (not consider his value valued more than anyone else) b. mustn’t be under the influence of any strong desire
