B”HOur sages teach:There is nothing higher than pleasure and nothing lower than pain.If a person is fortunate enough not to be in pain, and even more fortunate to feel good, that alone is an extraordinary blessing.Yet what often happens?Instead of appreciating this gift, people chase narcissistic desires—recognition, honor, status. But these pursuits are illusions. They satisfy only for a moment.Just like eating when you’re hungry, the pleasure disappears the moment the desire is fulfilled.Anyone who has actually attained fame or recognition knows the truth:it does not bring lasting happiness.People chase it only because they imagine it will satisfy them. But if we could free ourselves from that illusion, we would realize something simple and profound:If you are not in pain…If you are able to live…If you are able to do the will of G-d…you should be dancing with gratitude. To be a human being. To be a Jew.To be able to serve G-d.To be able to do even one act of kindness. The Baal Shem Tov teaches that a soul may descend to this world for 70 or 80 years just to do one favor for another person. How much more so if we are able to do many.If you have the gift of relationships…If you bring kindness to others…You bring joy to G-d and to PEOPLE!!then you are already living the greatest life possible.Everything else is merely a distraction from true joy.
