B”H Motzoei Shabbos Kodesh Parshas Balak The mode ani story: 12 words/12 seconds In the past few years a study was made to help people who wake up in the morning and As soon as they get off the bed, they fall down and faint. A Chassidic doctor went to a medical conference in Manhattan. The head cardiologist Explained that a study was conducted on this condition and they found out that when a person awakes It takes 12 seconds for the proper functioning of the body. Dr. Feldman, who was in the audience, raised his hand and asked the cardiologist: Dr. do you see people like Me coming to your office, with a kippa, tzitzit and beard? No she responded. I can tell you why, he Said in front of the audience of 2000 medical personnel. Each morning when we awake, we sit up in bed and say 12 words beginning with ‘mode Ani lefanecha………’. The audience stood up and cheered Dr. Feldman. My father in law, Rabbi Yosef Wineberg, z’l, traveled to S. Africa for fundraising purposes and while there and on the way would accomplish missions for the Rebbe and help people. During one such trip in the early years, he met with Mr. Shaul Bacher. Their friendship grew and Mr. Bacher began to write to the Rebbe for advice And blessings. Once he had a business question and asked Rabbi Wineberg what to do. It seems He had two businesses going on, a farm and a garment business. The garment business was going well, But the farm was declining. He wanted to know if he should sell the farm and concentrate all of his Energy in the garment business. Rabbi Wineberg suggested he should write to the Rebbe for advice. He did so and the Rebbe advised him not to sell the farm, but to give the manager of the farm more Money to take care of it. Later on the garment business starting going down and he asked if he should Sell it. The Rebbe answered that on the contrary he should purchase as much material as he could. Shortly thereafter a new government came into power and announced a new law for the garment Industry. They were only allowed to import new garments based on what was purchased the year before. Now Mr. Bacher understood the Rebbe’s foresight in advising him in all areas of his business. Some time passed and the government established a new airport. The area they chose was in close Proximity to the farm and Mr. Bacher was offered a large sum of money from the government. Eventually they paid five times the value of the farm to have the right to fly over it constantly. Mr. Bacher’s son, under the influence of Rabbi Wineberg, went to Yeshiva in NY for a number of years and today is one of the bulwarks of The Chabad community. As told by Rabbi Zev Wineberg ————————————————– Story from chaim dovid laine One of his anscestors r’ peretz chein came to the f rebbes’s father the rebbe rashab with a report about the yeshiva. The rebbe advised him to tell it to his son, who was about 16-17 at the time and had already been officialy taken in by his father in klal work and specifically as head of the yeshiva. The elder chosid went in to speak to the f. rebbe. He sat there sharing the info as a chosid who listens to his rebbe does, though it was quite obvious that he was the senior by quite some years! To add to his feelings, it appeared that the f rebbe was not at all interested. He sat the whole time flipping a coin in his fingers. Suddenly the coin fell from his hand and landed on the floor. The elder chosid of course bent down to pick up the coin for the son of the rebbe. At this very moment, a bullet was shot thru the window which narrowly missed him and his life was saved. The elder chosid of course understood now to whom he was speaking and with a renewed respect of his young mentor, he left his presence. (it seems the undisciplined youth of the time who had severed their relationship with torah and mitzvos were out to get the rebbe’s son and narrowly missed both him and the elder chosid r’ peretz chein) A slave is always a slave, even in freedom; a free man is always free, in freedom and in slavery – think the Jews
