“better to go to a house of mourning than a party,”

In the end of the day, all that remains after a lifetime, is the memories of the goodness compassion and love we gave – both to ourselves (i.e. our soul in heaven) as well as to whom we touched on earth – no one cares about the money you make, the car you drive – not once have I been to a shivah (mourners house) where the only emphasis wasn’t on the goodness compassion and love shared – perhaps this why King Solomon taught “better to go to a house of mourning than a party,” for at least then we know what people will remember us by!
