Belonging

I realized that living in Africa where the respect for another’s life, rights, is practically non-existent, societies function very differently.

Why would it be abhorrent, say for a normal American to steal; certainly, to God-forbid murder? and yet theft murder rape are literally as common as going to the bathroom in African societies?

The answer has a lot to do with belonging.

When a person grows up in America, they feel they belong to a society which holds certain values.

However growing up bereft of any larger belief system, then there simply is no belief system, no values, that prevent one’s natural instincts, from dominating their behaviors!
