Behind everything lies one thing, and that is the infinite tension which actually leads to growth, between man’s dignity and man’s ego – they seem to many to be similar, but they are in fact opposites – I recall once when I had low self-esteem, so somehow I commented to my sister how I had a healthy (i.e. big) ego, so she explained “ego and self-esteem are opposites” – in other words and this is something so many of us get confused at, as the Webster definition of a bully is someone who is “a blustering browbeating person; especially: one habitually cruel to others who are weaker.” So part one the definition of a bully is the fact that his ego is really a farce, and the very reason he is cruel to weaker people, is because he feels so low – in other words, the infinite tension that is between our dignity and ego can be rephrased into the following simple equation “self-esteem = dignity” “low self-esteem = ego” – however, ironically, growth never occurs in the absence of pain, so ultimately what God does is the following mechanism – he first creates us hopefully with loving parents that build our self-image, love for ourselves, hence self-esteem = dignity; we then encounter people with low self-esteem, hence ego, hence jealousy, hence bullying people with good self-esteem; this then shatters our original self-image, but of course we are still alive to tell the tale, so we become like a ghost; once our previous incarnation has been destroyed, we are capable of creating the truth, and the truth is, our childhood self-image is that we are our body, and God leads us to a new reality, namely our body is only the container for our soul – in fact, we and God are one and the same! light in darkness! and hopefully with our newfound knowledge, we share the light, helping others too become light in darkness!
