Because our deepest need is love, because love creates the desire to do the wish of the one you love… and because one of our greatest desires is increasing our status – so when we perceive both love and status-increase, from someone – often the first time, may be megalomaniac and a narcissist – what happens is, as in battered person syndrome, we may then enjoy our own debasement and suffering
