At the heart of all is a simple truth, as it states in Kabbalah, people desire to feel good and not to feel miserable; the great question framed no better that in the raison detr’e of the American constitution “life liberty and the pursuit of happiness;” the question of course is, what is the mechanism? and this is where Jewish mysticism answers: as confirmed by modern science, it goes like this, when we love people, we feel good; when we are afraid of people and hence resent that fear and as a corollary bonus are jealous of those who love, we are obviously both afraid, angry (resentment) as well as jealous – jealousy produces imaginary reasons why, who we are jealous over deserves to be annihilated, punished, in short, be bullied into feeling how we feel.
