Are we one?

One of the most poignant encounters between two worldviews, one that fosters war, the other peace was following the Crown Heights riots – maliciously orchestrated by the irreverend al Sharpton, which literary murdered an innocent Jew and another elder lady who remembering the pogroms of her youth in Russia, jumped from fear to her death off her apt. building – simultaneously it has been believed that the reason the police stood by doing nothing for three days, is David Dinkins, the mayor, told them to allow the blacks to “vent their rage” and as soon as the order came to stop it, in one hour the riots ended – so David Dinkins, a black leader comes to the Rebbe following this pogrom (as called by the former mayor of New York, Ed Koch) and he said “may there be peace in our two communities” the Rebbe replied “it is one community.”

In this simple exchange, we see the difference between those who foment war and those who build bridges of peace.

For the former essentially has what’s called in game theory, a zero sum game, they don’t see the world as us; they see the world as “me or you” and extend that war-like mentality to “us and them” – behind it all is a fear of others (usually justifiably so) and hence a consequent hatred, as well as jealousy (hence we see their greatest tyranny is saved for the Jews and other kind-hearted compassionate people, for ultimately it feels terrible, to live in fear and hate.)

On the flipside are the Jews, Americans, in fact any good humble compassionate person for they don’t see “me and you” they don’t see “us and them” they see “we are all the children of the same God, to help one another grow both materially and spiritually.”
