Are we good?

By zevi770 · September 23, 2011

I always used to think of myself as a good guy

The truth is I think I was a good guy

But…

But I wasn’t aware of a hidden part of my psyche – which we all have – namely my ego!

In other words:

The essence of goodness is simplistic interpersonal identification (love your friend as much as yourself) but we also have an ego.

The ego is that part of us that has insecurities.

When offended we are capable of tremendous cruelty to “recall” our broken identities.

So are we good?

Definitely, however if we do not learn to constantly be appriective to God – thus reducing our personal control and expectations thereof (resulting in our anger when we don’t get our way) we can unfortunately become very bad.

So life is quite simply the greatest challenge, namely to know that our true identity is good, but that we are capable of evil – for the evil people in history were also just like us – and to counteract this potential through constantly being grateful to God and of course subservient.
