You know addicts have a funny saying which I slightly disagree with, they call addiction a disease.
Now according to Chassidus / Jewish mysticism the truth is far simpler, we are all addicts, though some people are more prone to addictions than others.
In fact, one of the greatest authorities on addictions, Rabbi Dr. Twersky says, we are all addicts.
Why?
Its simple.
Drugs give pleasure, pleasure is addictive.
Nothing complex, however the ramifications are enormous.
If this is the case it means we get addicted to everything pleasure, sex, drugs and rock-n-roll are the obvious, but why do people check their email on average forty times an hour, or their facebook pages every other minute.
The answer is simply to why we go to the fridge looking for food.
