all people are in one of three possible states – either they have security and hence as we assume we make our reality, are proud of themselves, and as they are proud of themselves their natural desire to fulfill their desires – whatever they are, which as the Alter Rebbe says, is a combination of fire, supremacy (recognition) Water – Pleasure (s) Air, comedy / fun (frivolousness) and Earth laziness (sadness, lethargic) Coupled with positive instincts such as compassion and unity – the second is we exist in fear, anxiety, dread, panic God-forbid hence we hate ourselves (because as we assume we create our reality therefore our ego is angry that we did or arr not helping ourselves) now when this occurs, we go to the negative state, so what we do is not out of desire but out of protection (we are trying to avert) so such a life is not joyful (in what is called the Pan-Am study, they looked at photographs of tight lipped students indicating fear and traced them many years later and none were happy – this is perfectionism, control-freak etc.) unfortunately this also leads to maliciousness (as "why should I be miserable while you happy.." for whenever we think we are equally entitled, jealousy is aroused; and like all emotions it is not rational but as lust desires so jealousy (though the former is attainment, the latter destructive) finally we can grow up – "the world wasn’t made by me", "I don’t control my security" (the proof is that it pretty much depends on the strength of the government) my job is…
