All our actions obviously must first be thoughts, so our mind is like a gps, however there are three different drives: the desire for truth, goodness and kindness; the desire for pleasure and fear of pain; and the ego’s desire for recognition and desire to destroy those it hates either out of vengeance or jealousy – so with conflicting access to our thoughts, the only way to ensure truth, goodness and kindness reign, is by using another gps for our life, which contains truth goodness and kindness, but lacks our instinctual drive for pleasure / pain and recognition and anger; and that of course is the entire purpose of Judaism – naaseh venishmah – to adhere to God’s objective goodness and kindness campaign – which practically, can only be implemented, if either we ask God directly (as Kabbalah teaches, the first thought coming to your mind after you ask God, is God’s reply) or through using – as the Rebbe suggested – a Mashpia, Chassidic spiritual mentor.
