All behavior which is activity, even thoughts (mental activity – speech is verbal activity, and action is a motion) is obviously self-motivated (be it an angel, or the opposite an animal or human – there is some type of self motive) now similar to as Frued said, when we look at people, at the extremes – as we all have some of those motives, we can sometimes understand also ourselves better – so from the extreme, – animals are entirely self-motivated – every behavior (which actually includes thought – some animals are mathematical geniuses, for example bees,) is motivated by fear of pain / death and pleasure (what has been hardwired for that animal to feel good – it also, as is obvious has an ego, hence can both care for its young, as well as compassionately care for others) now human behavior adds two other elements, the first is the curiosity of the mind (when we are not in a state of fear/panic or in a state of addiction/lust/pride) we are quite simply curious – we seek knowledge… – finally we also contain within us a Divine soul (which loves and reveres God – in fact as a psychiatrist told me, there are parts of our brain that light up when we are spiritual)
