Achieving serenity

It’s about 3:00 am and it is peaceful – why is that when humanity is asleep we finally feel that elusive feeling of tranquility?
Achieving serenity is perhaps the most important goal, for what sense is it to go through life not being at peace?
Tomorrow is the mechanism to achieve serenity – it is when God gave/gives the Torah – make sure to be at synagogue to hear the reading of the Ten Commandments, live!
So how can commandments, something that obligates you, achieve serenity?
Our sages teach, the only free man, is one who practices Judaism.
Many – including Jews, including religious Jews – think – that Judaism is a noose.
If I didn’t have these laws I would be free.
However, achieving serenity, is obviously the goal, and how we get there matters not, it’s getting there that does!
You see, people only feel serenity when they have a meaning to their lives!
Animals can simply eat, go to the bathroom, sleep, procreate, and they have no angst, they feel not that their lives are one day going to end in the nether world, leaving nothing of significance behind them!
People are different!
We have soul/minds that tell us we must be significant – not for our ego, rather to fix the potholes, to straighten the bumps, to leave a better world than we found!
Hence if we have this drive, we likewise have a necessity, yes necessity, to drive it!
Now of course the question is, what is the mechanism to drive this road!?
Ah’ this is where Judaism comes in, for only, yes only, by adhering to God’s values of goodness and kindness, but based on God’s instructions (hence when we become angry we don’t lose ourselves) can we achieve serenity!
