A World Of Endless Nothing

There is no doubt that the saying of our sages has stood the test of time – you may accept science from a gentile but never Torah / the meaning of life.

There is no doubt that our world today was one which from any rational observation is nothing short of a science fiction novel.

Imagine, people being able to fly in less than a day to anywhere in the world, being able to see and talk to each other instantoiusly, transferring funds, buying goods, never mind playing games and yet our world is far less not more happy! – an amazing statistic – than previous generations.

The answer as one Russian scientist who became religious told me “happiness is internal.”

For most of our history and for most cultures and societies they sought to become happy by looking good, by deadening their internal existential loneliness and meaninglessness.

But the facts of happiness are actually fundamentally exceptionally simple, happiness is sort of a pride one has in one’s positive accomplishments.

Now if my agenda in life is to be happy, as Dr. Seligman the founder of positive psychology and head or the American Psychological Association says, you will not become happy – for pleasure does not make man happy, for as he discovered and as our sages say, any constant pleasure loses its pleasure (think about eating anything you like constantly.)

The only way to be happy is to do something meaningful.
